Only in the People's Republic of California

Only in the Peoples Republic of California would the Pledge of Allegiance be declared unconstitutional.

Only in California.

We in Arizona hope the big one comes soon, so that California falls off into the ocean and all of our dreams of ocean front property in Yuma will be realized.

This is what I would like to say to the man that filed the original law suit:

Dear Sir:

I understand that you are an atheist and that you find the words One nation under god offensive.

There are many offensive things in the world today. Some people, such as yourself try and resolve your concerns through litigation. This is your right. However, I think that most people, instead of suing a school district over the wording of The Pledge of Allegiance would use the opportunity to discuss this issue with their child. This is your responsibility as a parent.

You claim that the phrase One nation under god is religion in the classroom. The last time I checked, the Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Mormons, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists are not beating down the doors of the Congress trying to have this doctrine taught in the schools.

My child should not be prohibited from expressing his or her patriotism because you find one phrase in The Pledge of Allegiance offensive. That would violate our rights.

If the situation causes you such distress, then have your child quietly sit while the children recite the Pledge, find a new school, teach her at home. If you have taught well, you have nothing to worry about.

Sincerely,

Eden.
