edensgarden's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's no business like show business Tonight the TONY awards were on TV. For those of you not in the know, the Tony Awards are the awards given to Broadway plays and musicals. I must say also, this is the only award show that I will watch. There are several reasons for this. First, the participants seem to have much more class and decorum than musicians, and movie and television actors. When the winners got up to accept their awards, their speeches were short and to the point. There were no political agendas to be preached, there were no issues to be �discussed.� It was just nice evening of tributes and awards for excellence. Second, although Clastia Flockhart was a fashion faux pas, most of the participants were tastefully attired. There were no excessive amounts of cleavage, legs, butts, bead heads, unshaven faces, and tummies. Thank you. Third, the show was hosted by Bernadette Peters and Gregory Hines; two of the most talented people in the theater. Bernadette, I love your voice, I will always love your voice. Gregory, if only I could dance like you then I would not have become a school teacher. Finally, the show ended ON TIME! It was the perfect balance of production numbers, awards, thank you�s and commercials. The opening was a tribute to Richard Rogers, one of the best lyricists in Broadway history. I was singing along with all of the songs included in the tribute. My favorite musical Into the Woods won for best revival of a musical, and Thoroughly Modern Millie won for best new musical. Thank you, oh thank you for not picking Urinetown: The Musical as the winner. Yes, it�s a musical about Urine. Ok even Broadway can crank out a dud once in a while. That is all I am going to say about that.
