edensgarden's Diaryland Diary

Just another reason....

Monday, here in Phoenix, a man serving a death-row prison sentence was released from prison. Using new technology and DNA evidence from the crime it was proven that this man was innocent.

As soon as this evidence was discovered, the county attorneys office did the right thing, released the evidence to the judge and the defense attorney.

The prisoner who was released was so thankful and humbled to be out, his happiness was true happiness and his humility was real. When asked if he held hard feelings toward the prosecutor or the state, he simply said that he knew that they were doing their job, and that the technology that exonerated him was not available at the time of his trial.

Not more than six hours after his release the news media here in town were running stories with headlines similar to this: Should freed man sue the state for wrongful imprisonment?

Today the ACLU got in on the action and now is talking about filing a lawsuit in behalf of the free man (even though he says he does not want to sue).

Why is this happening? The state had new evidence, due to technology that WAS NOT available at the time of trial. Now that it is available the state used it and did the right thing. The free man and his family do not want to play the blame game. Why does the ACLU think that they should interfere, get involved, and spend more of my tax dollars on a frivolous lawsuit that THE PEOPLE INVOLVED DONT WANT???

It irritates me even more that the stupid news monkeys fan these flames.

Maybe we should send the ACLU to death row, oh wait that might be inhumane or something.

Just another reason I didnt become a lawyer.
