Integrity

Integrity: Uncompromising adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.

What is the French Figure Skating Judge adhering to up at the Olympics? Not moral and ethical principles, that is for certain. Yes, I speak of the brewing scandal involving last nights Pairs Figure Skating. It was reported tonight on our local news that the French judge has admitted to making a deal with the Chinese judge to swap votes. The French judge, in exchange for voting for the Russians, assured that the Chinese judge would vote for a French couple in the Ice Dancing competition.

Nasty business this business of sport.

I do realize that there has been, and always will be cheating in every sport. However, what does this accomplish? It assures a place in the history books, soon to be forgotten, for a small moment of fame. But is that worth it?

I was always taught that cheating was a bad thing, that to tell the truth was the right thing to do, even if it meant an outcome less than expected. Such is the way of life.

Am I naive in thinking that we should still be honest in all our dealings with our fellow humans? Dont mistake me here, I do believe that we can do favors for one another, and Ive made many withdrawals at the favor bank, but where and when do we draw the line?

It saddens me that the Olympics are going to marked with another scandal, and that this is going to take away from the enjoyment of the games as well as someone elses time in the spotlight.
