The Duel

The spectacle of lights that I witnessed last night was amazing. I stood silently and alone on my front walk watching fireworks explode in the distance. The reds, greens, and blues, erupted with such brilliance and beauty. They somehow did not seem as magnificent, however without hearing the booms and smelling the acrid sulfer smoke. They were still beautiful, none the less.

And then it began, lightning! Mother nature chimed in as if to say, "Wait! Don't forget me!" As the colorful explosions loomed large in the night sky, the clouds answered back with a jelous fury. Bolts of lightning came crakling down, lighting the sky with a brightness that made to colors of the fireworks pale in comparison.

Sister Moon would have no part of this duel. She hid her face quietly behind the clouds, and would only peek out in the brief intervals of quiet. In then end the lightning won the fight! The fireworks were silent, the wind blew hot and moist over my face, as if to say, "We'll be back."
